Continuation of the project beyond the course （SSDP Platform）

But from a visual and spatial point of view, exhibitions cannot last forever.In the book Critical Design (Dunne, A.2008) is mentioned: Critical Design uses speculative design proposals to challenge narrow assumptions, preconception and givens about the role products play in everyday life. From a more pragmatic point of view for Deaf people, I decided to create a Self-service Deaf Platform(SSDP). It is a non-profit organization for Deaf. SSDP provides a platform for co-operation and information exchange among Deaf individuals and interested parties. As a non-profit and self-service platform, SSDP works to promote greater understanding of hearing loss issues and to create a more accessible environment for the Deaf. The platform will cover art exhibitions, buying and selling of Deaf crafts, Deafness prevention, guidance on government welfare policies, employment, healthcare, and sign language teaching. At the same time, the platform also accepts donations from individuals and companies. This innovative charity system will continue to be improved and updated with the support of the Deaf and the hearing world.

Why Self Service Platform for the Deaf？

In my research prior to the project, many Deaf people distinguished themselves from the physically disabled or mentally ill by being able-bodied in appearance and behavior .The absence of the hearing system allows them to produce a more focused attention on their work life.In the process of filling out the membership roster for the formation of the Deaf community, I was surprised to find that many of the Deaf members had multiple forms of expression in the hand arts.For example, paintings, sculptures, designs, etc.These works of art are highly potential for commercial transactions.

In the wake of the epidemic, the Russia-Ukraine war and the Gaza conflict have slowed the global economic recovery, triggering a surge in global inflation and soaring food and energy prices. The cost of living has risen and personal income expenditures have become higher.The amount of money spent on charitable donations has also become smaller.We cannot deny the benefits of the charity system, but we also need to recognise the cognitive errors in exploiting people’s empathy in a number of ways.

So the innovation that sets this platform apart from the traditional charity system is that it emphasises self-service.
